<p>In the mid-to-late 1960s, the Denton Municipal Complex was designed by Texas architect O'Neil Ford, who commissioned Martha and Beaumont Mood to make pottery lamps, planters, and urns for each of the buildings.</p>
<p>The 1981 expansion to the Emily Fowler Library added a split-level floor and a breezeway to the front of the building.<br /><br />In addition to more Beaumont Mood pottery lamps, Ford approached another San Antonio artisan, Charlene deJori to make exterior lighting for the front of the building. <br /><br /><br /></p>

Description

Two tall cylindrical vessels with geometric patterns in reddish, blue, and brown, made by Beaumont Mood. They reside in a cabinet at the Emily Fowler Central Library. The containers were commissioned by O'Neil Ford as part of the 1968 renovation of the library. Beaumont Mood was the owner of the Beaumont Mood Lighting Company in San Antonio, Texas.
From 1969 until the early 1980s, customers were allowed to smoke in the library and this was originally used as an ashtray in the building.
Their condition: dark marks, smudges, and some small chipping on the top band. Property stickers are on the lowest band of each.

The Emily Fowler Central Library currently has five chip carvings created by artisan Lynn Ford.
The Civic Center building has several Lynn Ford doors that are located at the front entrance.
City Hall has two sets of Lynn Ford doors, one set that was located on the east entrance is now on display in the east hall. The other set is the u-bend of the building. There are also ten brass and tin lamps crafted by Lynn and Rodolfo Cabral outside of the city council chambers.

Panel of carvings by the late Lynn Ford, brother of the architect O'Neil Ford, who designed the library.
From "Library's architecture, art a family affair," 10/02/1981, Denton Record-Chronicle:
Authella Ford Hersh, their sister, and her husband, Roland B. Hersh, made the panels using carvings from Lynn's workshop in San Antonio. The wall will serve somewhat as a memorial for him, his sister said.
Two Irving men, Gregory and Michael Novinski, sons of Lyle Novinski who teaches at the University of Dallas, prepared five panels 4-by-8 of plywood and covered them with brown suede.
Some are templates, designs which serve as "molds" for hammered brass or lead.

Four-ton all-metal sculpture, salvaged from the remains of the old Kimbell Flour Mill, Trinity Industries, and Harpool's Seed Cleaning Plant, all businesses from Denton, Texas. The metal had sat in a "junk" pile behind Harpool Seed's grain elevator and was donated by Tom Harpool.
Completed in 1980, the work was commissioned by Arnold Austad for the library at a cost of $5,000; it took him two months to complete.
The two large metal basins were used to circulate water for the fountain. Some controversy took place after the Austad painted the fountain with red oxide to prevent rust first. The public had expected it to be forest green and some were disappointed by the color. Later it would be painted black.
The fountain was disconnected around 2008 due to vandalism and turned into a planter. Plans to preserve and reconnect it began in 2022.

The Mill by Arnold David Austad

Four-ton all-metal sculpture, salvaged from the remains of the old Kimbell Flour Mill, Trinity Industries, and Harpool's Seed Cleaning Plant, all businesses from Denton, Texas. The metal had sat in a "junk" pile behind Harpool Seed's grain elevator and was donated by Tom Harpool.
Completed in 1980, the work was commissioned by Arnold Austad for the library at a cost of $5,000; it took him two months to complete.
The two large metal basins were used to circulate water for the fountain. Some controversy took place after the Austad painted the fountain with red oxide to prevent rust first. The public had expected it to be forest green and some were disappointed by the color. Later it would be painted black.
The fountain was disconnected around 2008 due to vandalism and turned into a planter. Plans to preserve and reconnect it began in 2022.

<p>In the mid-to-late 1960s, the Denton Municipal Complex was designed by Texas architect O'Neil Ford, who commissioned Martha and Beaumont Mood to make pottery lamps, planters, and urns for each of the buildings.</p>
<p>The 1981 expansion to the Emily Fowler Library added a split-level floor and a breezeway to the front of the building.<br /><br />In addition to more Beaumont Mood pottery lamps, Ford approached another San Antonio artisan, Charlene deJori to make exterior lighting for the front of the building. <br /><br /><br /></p>

These four brass and tin light fixtures are located in an alcove off the east-most inner wing of Denton City Hall. A vertical platform lift, which was later installed, impedes the viewer from getting too close to three of them. The photo was taken from the inside courtyard.
They were commissioned by O'Neil Ford and made by Lynn Ford & Roberto Cabral using brass and tin.

Six brass and tin lamps line the wall to the Denton City Council chambers. Another four can be found in a nearby alcove that overlooks the courtyard. Of the four in the alcove, three of them are smaller and boxy-shaped.
According to architect Mike Lance, the light fixtures were designed by Canadian artist, Gene Byron, who had a shop in Marfil, México, a suburb of Guanajuato. "She had about ten workers who were proficient at turning out brass and tin fixtures, which was lucky since I needed a lot of fixtures." [Conversation with Mike Lance, 2/04/2015].
However, upon examining the lamps, the names of Lynn Ford and Rodolfo Cabral are on only one light fixture which might make it the prototype.
The building was completed in 1967.
