<text>There is a long story about how this map came to be.

In 1936, Sena Mounts Wright drew this map based on drawings by a local surveyor,

In celebration of the new Denton City-County Public Library, a mural was commissioned by the Parent-Teacher Association for the library's opening in 1949.

The mural was painted directly onto the wall behind the front desk by Mrs. Irene Grady. She added a border to each side of the map depicting the old cattle brands of Denton County.

The library grew, and an expansion was planned in 1968. However, it was deemed too cost-prohibitive to move the mural, so it was torn down. Miss Tommye Noel repainted and framed the mural, giving it to the library and donating it in memory of Otis Fowler, Mrs. Fowler's husband.

The painting has lived in various parts of the library, but currently resides over the fireplace.

Sources:

Denton Record-Chronicle, 01/26/1949

https://dentonlibrary.wordpress.com/2019/08/07/a-map-a-mural-a-mystery/</text>
