Title

Hand-painted mural of the geography and history of Denton County.

Description

The mural is an enlarged and colored edition of a map created by Sena Mounts Wright and painted by Denton artist, Irene Grady. She added the border, illustrating the first cattle brands registered in Denton County. The original map was painted in 1949 and covered the entire wall behind the front desk of the library. A second smaller map was completed for the 1969 renovation of the building.

A custom-made fireplace screen was commissioned by local stained glass artisan, Christie Wood, in 2006.

Two peacock chairs designed by Hans J. Wegner, flank the fireplace; they were given to the library in memory of Luke Wilson, by his friends in 1981.
